Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 May 2026
WhereFromHere (“we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by Shannon Jackson (ABN 50 931 918 712) (transitioning to DJSW Group Pty Ltd). We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over your information.
Contents
1. What we collect
The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with WhereFromHere. Categories include:
- Contact information — your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, submit a partner enquiry, or contact us.
- Search inputs — destinations, travel dates, and traveller numbers you enter into our comparison tools (we do not require an account to perform searches).
- Business information — for partner applications, the company name, business type, contact email, and the message you provide.
- Technical information — IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and pages viewed, collected automatically.
- Cookies and similar technologies — see Section 5.
We do not collect payment card details directly. Bookings are completed on partner websites (e.g. Booking.com) under their own terms.
2. How we collect it
- Directly from you — when you fill in a form, subscribe, or email us.
- Automatically — through cookies, analytics, and server logs when you visit the site.
- From third parties — anonymised analytics from Netlify (our hosting provider) and, when added, Google Analytics.
3. Why we collect it
- To provide the comparison search functionality on our site.
- To send you newsletters or marketing emails — only if you opt in. You may unsubscribe at any time.
- To respond to partner enquiries and contact requests.
- To improve site performance, fix bugs, and develop new features.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
- To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud or misuse.
We will not use your personal information for any purpose unrelated to the above without your consent, unless required or permitted by Australian law.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal information only as needed and with appropriate safeguards:
- Hosting and infrastructure — Netlify (hosting), VentraIP (DNS/domain), ImprovMX (email forwarding).
- Affiliate partners — when you click a partner link (e.g. Booking.com via Awin), tracking parameters are passed to that partner so they can attribute the booking. The partner then collects information under their own privacy policy.
- Analytics providers — Netlify Analytics; Google Analytics if and when enabled.
- Legal authorities — where required by law, court order, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Cookies & tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, measure traffic, and (where applicable) attribute affiliate clicks.
- Essential cookies — required for the site to function (e.g. theme preference).
- Analytics cookies — anonymised traffic measurement.
- Affiliate tracking — when you click a partner link, the partner sets a cookie to attribute any booking. These cookies are governed by the partner’s privacy policy.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may stop working. We respect the “Do Not Track” signal where technically practical.
6. Security & retention
We use HTTPS across the entire site and apply standard security headers. Form submissions are processed through Netlify Forms with spam protection. We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, plus any period required by law (typically 7 years for tax records under the Income Tax Assessment Act).
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We will notify affected users and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if a notifiable data breach occurs, in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
7. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention requirements).
- Withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time, by clicking unsubscribe or emailing us.
- Make a complaint about how we have handled your information.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@wherefromhere.com.au. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
8. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers operate or store data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Specifically:
- Netlify — United States.
- ImprovMX — France / European Union.
- Affiliate networks (Awin, etc.) — United Kingdom, European Union, and United States.
By using our site you consent to the overseas transfer of your personal information to these jurisdictions. We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the APPs.
9. Children
WhereFromHere is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated via the site or by email if you have subscribed to our newsletter.
